I dont get it. I have just started my 2nd 3kg kit, a brupaks west riding wheat beer. as with my first 3kg kit i have taken a hydrometer reading after adding everything to the fv and at a temp of around 22c and 23 litres of total of liquid. Both times the hydrometer has read 1022. Surely this isnt right as even allowing for the brew to reach an sg of 1000 its gonna be like 2% or something stupid. Is this something peculiar to 3kg kits or is my hydrometer faulty ? i did triple check the reading just in case i read it wrong last time.

Yeah i did that. stirred it well when added boling water and kit contents making sure i didnt leave any stuck to the bottom and then stirred like crazy for 5 mins when added rest of 23 litres of water. :wha:

yep !. The last one tasted ok and seemed to have a bit of a kick to it. Didnt have like a major sesh on it though so couldnt confirm the manual falling down ratio. :drink:

both kits had a low reading? i'd question the hydrometer. what does it say for water? should be 1000

try this, disolve 10 g of sugar in 100ml of water at 20 it should be about 1037 if not dump your hydrometer (someone check the maths there a few sheets to the wind)

hope that helps

hey if that works you could infact just recalibrate the hydrometer and not throw it! :thumb:
