Just checked out some pictures on the web of Argon welders and they seem to have the same fitting as my oxygen regulator so perhaps an adaptor from argon to co2 would do perfectly.

Just been doing a little digging myself.

Argon regulators are meant to have a 5/8 BSP right hand thread.

It looks like that's the same as oxygen regulators too.

Phoned MachineMart nearest to me and they're getting one in tomorrow lucky enough so I'll nip down and get it without having to pay postage and more importantly....waiting!

Ok...the saga has finally finished.

Bru uses an Oxygen regulator on a co2 tank without and adaptor as in Ireland the co2 cylinders have the same female connectors as Argon/Oxygen. So thanks to Trunky's link to Machine Mart I had what I needed and gave them a ring to double check the product was Oxygen Regulator to Co2 Cylinder and not vice versa. The first guy I spoke to confirmed it was the right part but the second guy informed me it was the other way around. Doh!

He then went on to say they used to stock the adaptor I needed but discontinued it and did a quick search of Machine Mart's nationwide to see if anyone had any left. He said they went for £30...hence the eBay links Jamesb posted... He finally found one in Ilford Essex and rang to tell me he'd order it to the store in Bolton for collection. The best thing about it being it was the final and possible last adaptor of it's kind Machine Mart stocked nationwide and it was being sold for the princely sum of £5 inc VAT! It arrived in yesterday and I collected this morning, it is just the job and have now gassed up my Keg...finally!

Moral of the story is that my friend's friend was a lunatic!

Cheers boys,

Yep, MachineMart were top quality as usual V.

I almost went for nitrogen/co2 mix as I have a mixed gas regulator but I decided to hold out and now I'm officially on the cheap co2!

No worries Bru it was actually your PM that helped the most for me to sort out that I wasn't crazy and it was my friend's mate who said it was a CO2 regulator who needs his head looking at! Would've been a lot easier if the UK used the same fittings as Eire.

Gassed up , vented and re-gassed and it's been left to sit now. I've got a PET tester of the brew that's in there and it's been chilling in the fridge for two days so a timely reminder of why we bust our balls for this hobby!

Thanks again Bru, James and Trunky..top advice as usual.
