On day 2 of fermenting and its gone wild, is this normal and what steps to take next? Clean airlock etc?

yes it's normal for brews to be energetic just remove your airlock clean it and replace and let it carry on as normal.

Welcome to the forum bristolsparks

We all make this mistake at one time or another by putting too much water in the DJ, i had the same happen with a Wilko cherry kit it escaped when i was at work and i didn't have it in a tray, Mrs Tea was not pleased.

If you leave it just below the shoulder it will not escape next time, you can top up later with cooled boiled water when it has calmed down. (day 4 or 5)

Clean the airlock (make sure nothing gets in when you are doing this) then pour boiling water over the bung before you put it back in to be on the safe side.

Thought i left enough room in there as not filled all the way up. Oh well. Next time ill leave more room as suggested.
Want to make a good red wine this weekend. Something like a Melbec so will have to find a receipe.

do i need real grapes or a kit Chippy?
Oh well, ill find a decent method for some cider and have a look at some red wine kits
thanks again

Asda pressed red grape juice on the chilled isle we bottled one last night and it was lovely.
Doing another today with some cloves and a chilly or 2 ready for crimbo.

I now use red grape juice in all my wines as white grape was getting difficult to find, i think it makes a better tasting wine than the white version but be warned it looks red in the DJ but it will be rose coloured when it has finished fermenting and cleared.

If you are after a good red wine kit bristolsparks. I would recommend The Range's Make Your Own Red wine kit, at £24.99 it's a bit dearer than some but IMHO it is well worth the money, ferments well in about 10 days I let it clear for another 5 days and it can be drunk straight away but does improve with age, about 2-3 months. It is so red it needs a torch to see through a 2 litre lemonade bottle full!
