Scottm,

you are simply a legend and a wealth of knowledge, thank you for taking the time to give me a very detailed description.

if you were closer a pint would be in order

No worries mate, I know how daunting it is when just starting out. I didn't have anyone helping me out in the beginning and it didn't go right for AGES, learning the hard way has taught me a lot but it's always best to have an idea of what you are doing from the get go :D

Hi scottm,

Having slept and digested your fantastic last post, another couple of questions have come to mind.

with starsan in a skoosher, does it need to be diluted?

also once I have rinsed the bottles with the bottle rinser, I assume the remnants can be poured back in the starsan bottle?

and lastly you said about siphoning the vwp treated water to clean the siphon tube, is vwp none toxic as you always get a bit in your mouth

Regards

Carl

Starsan gets diluted at 1.5ml per litre IIRC. The stuff goes a LONG way.
You dilute it for the bottle rinser too, I can live with chucking 1.5ml of the stuff down the sink. It can't be put back in the starsan bottle, as it's diluted already.
VWP is just chlorine based IIRC. Spitting instead of swallowing will see you OK ;)

Hi All,

Well the bottles have been conditioning/carbing up in the warm for 12 days, and temptation has got the better of me so a sampler went in the fridge earlier to chill down for first test can't wait and really hope it turns out OK as its my first brew I'm not expecting miracles.

I already have my 2nd brew lined up, a better brew Export lager in the squidgy bag with a kilo of muntons beer enhancer :drink:

I have since acquired 80 green kopparberg bottles and an 80 bottle drainer tree so eager to fill them and build a stock
