Northumberland brown ale?

Ok I'm a cider and lager man at heart but I do have an acquiring taste to Newcastle brown so I got this to try it, I'm just going to use brewing sugar as you can use this or the enhancer. Has anyone tried this and any advice for my first ale brew? I'm going to bottle ten pints and put the rest in a pressure barrel.
