Really getting sick of rinsing, I hear about the wonders of Starsan & Videne. Can someone give advice on how to get it & where from etc? Also, which one would you recommend?

Star San for me. I messed around with Milton and vwp etc, and had to rinse and rinse to avoid off flavours.

Get the smallest bottle of Star San you can find as it goes so far and lasts for ages.

I got mine from the homebrewcompany as all I needed was star San and Campden tablets, and their postage was cheap.

I bought a tub of Chemipro Oxy for £8.95 and must have done 30 brews, sterilizing everything including the bottles. It leaves no taste and is no rinse. I've still got enough for quite a few more brews before I need more. I bought it from Leyland Homebrew Supplies.

See Cleaners / sterilisers dilution rates and users guide

I think Star San is acidic or alkali - I forget which - so is better if you don't have hard water. You could just use bottled water from the supermarket.

I bought a 500ml bottle of Videne Antiseptic Solution from Lloyds pharmacy for just under a tenner. They had to order it in for me but it only took a couple of days. Most pharmacies should be able to get it for you, including the ones in a supermarket. It's also worth getting some small syringes for measuring our 1.25 mls. I hear some will also sell you a bung which might be helpful when the syringe isn't long enough to reach the fluid. Note: get the antiseptic solution and NOT the tincture.

I make up about 4l each time. I bottle, then reuse the fluid to sanitise the FV for the next brew.

I'm not certain what the contact time is for Videne. I read somewhere that it was instant and I read somewhere else that it was 30 seconds. Can't remember where I saw that.

Videne is much better value than the packets of sodium percarbonate that I was using before (contact time 10 minutes  ). I'll try Star San next time, not because there's anything wrong with Videne - just to see if it's any better.

I use it with a bottle tree and a bottle rinser. I thought they were a bit expensive at first, but now I think they are well worth the money. The most expensive ingredient is my time and labour.

+1 for Star San.

Best move I ever made. Cost a bit up front but at 7.5ml per reusable 5 litre batch I've calculated that my bottle will last, well, possibly forever....

I use RO water from my local aquarium for the mix. 50p a gallon. Crystal clear solution.

I only throw it away after several uses because I feel I 'should' do. Still comes up bright red on litmus papers after months. I kept an old batch as an experiment just for testing. Doesn't seem to change at all as long as you don't get it 'dirty'.

Should I mix it with tap water or deironized water?

I hear people using deironized water a lot,but sureley it isnt made to be consumed?

if you want a clear solution use RO water Deionised or cheapest option is tescos ashbeck spring water

I use oxy and am happy with it. I'm thinking of giving starsan a go though.
