Its a shame the reason behind this decision wasn't the huge price they cost compared to other makes just as capable (if not more so) this decision will reduce the cost of buying vehicles over time maybe they'll be able to afford a few more officers with the money saved.

Not a problem with this add-on ;)

What make/model would you call a British car?
That's a very good question - depends on the foreign made contents I suppose. I used to have four Vauxhall Zafiras in a row (company cars) and most of the parts had "Made in Germany" written on them.
Really just a variation of what PM Gordon Brown once said, "British jobs for British workers".
Surprised some politician hasn't highlighted this as a sort of Brexit bonus, taking back control and all that.

Nissan have a bad reputation for reliability especially the Quashqi I don't think that would be a step up from the BMW.

It'll be interesting to see which manufacturer they go for.

I would have laughed after hearing BMW state the police were using them incorrectly that's why they can burst into flames, however a police office died because of this fault. The ultimate driving machine - I think not. German automobile engineering isn't as good as it once was.

So whilst I would consider a modern german car on one of these PCP plans where you hand it back before it starts crapping out on you I go Japanese, (nissan excepted) wifes last car was 15yr old bought new with original exhaust and original battery was replaced at 10 years. Sons car same model - 16 years old - battery replaced at 11 years. He still has his but it is starting to rust now. He'll probably go honda, suzuki or mazda on second hand market.

I had a zafira back in 2003 and kept it for 6 years. Made in Bochum, Germany. Lovely car - lousy mpg. 32mpg on a good day

Over the years i have had 4 nissan's, sunny estate 1.5 180,00 miles the body rotted, primera 130,000 miles sold to a mate £500 he did another 80,000 in it, 64 plate juke diesel 64, 000 miles traded for a 15 plate clio big mistake, car now Juke 1.0L turbo 3 cylinder milage 7,500 will be my last car and it has the same size boot as a Quashqi,

It's not just speed that they need, most cars can zip along at a good rate now, it's the space for all the crap they carry about and comfort.
Shame ford killed off the Mondeo, as that was always the obvious alternative without going premium German.

Be interesting to see what they choose next, as there aren't that many decent capable estates about now. Mazda 6?
I reckon they won't even bother with estates and will go with hateful crossover things, such as the peppier engined ford Kuga
