No bubbles

Hi, this is my first post. I have been brewing beer kits with great success and really enjoy the beer. I started my first wine kit, Muntons Cab Sauv 5 gallon kit. I followed the instructions to the letter but there is no bubbling in the air lock. It has been on for 3 days at 22 deg. :cry:
I used my FV bin that I normally use for beer. Would that make a difference?
Has any body had experience of this before.
There is about 1/4 inch of foam with what likes like the yeast granules on top.

Any help would really be appreciated.
 
The foam makes it sound like it's going, check the sg and see. If not give it a stir. Most likely your lid isn't on tight enough for the CO2 to bother going through the airlock and is getting out an easier way. Some people say that the beer flavour may get into your wine from using the same fv but I've never had that problem and have done plenty of kits, it shouldn't do anything to the fermentation though.
 
Sanitise a large spoon or implement & open lid to access the wine & give it a good stirring, reclose lid & leave.
If nothing has happened in 24hrs i would add another yeast to it,but if it is foaming it probably is fermenting.Give
the lid a good pressing all way round fv to try & create a seal but some fv's just wont no matter hard you try. :cheers: ken.
ps,a seperate fv for wine & 1 for beer is best as there is evidence it can cause problems but as yet i have not had an issue although i have changed to seperate fv's when i read the article.There is a topic on the forum somewhere regarding it.

check with a hydrometer. I had this problem with an expensive Pinot, and chucked the lot down the bathtub a few years ago as I thought it had failed. WRONG :oops: As above, if its a lid type fermenter, CO2 with probably be seeping out. if its fizzing, its probably ok :cheers:
 
If it isn't going, don't just throw another yeast sachet in, make a starter:

Bottom third of the page. It's always worked for me and I do it every brew. I add a teaspoonful of sugar to the water I use to hydrate the yeast but otherwise follow his instructions to the letter.

It really does get a ferment off to a good start.
