I may have asked this before and my research has still turned up Jack. All I can find is that this may have been brewed by the Redruth Brewery (now no longer active). It was my favourite tipple back in the 90's. Served in 500ml swing tops (along with Newquay Steam Lager). If anyone has any idea of a clone recipe for this I would be very grateful.

Damn ... love to give it a go if you find it. I grew up in North Devon and we would spend many a weekend traveling across to 'that weird place with it's own language' and getting wasted on the stuff.

Good luck snail!

I have to agree Snail, it was a great drink, along with the cider and lager.

When I first moved to Cornwall from Lincolnshire twenty years ago the smell was amazing. I might be mistaken, but I thought I was told that the lager was brewed somewhere near Gloucester.

I drove past the old brewery only today. It was bought by the Chinese years ago. They promised to regenerate the brewery and the area around it, but guess what, nothing has happened with it in years. Its now just a shell after being set alight so many times.

If I get the chance, I will pop into the Cornish Studies Library in 'Druth' and see what I can dig up. In fact, after thinking about it, I will do it tomorrow as SWMBO works right next door to it in a cafe and she will need dropping off in the morning.

That would be brillient :thumb: top man  any info helping to get an AG recipie for this would be great :drink:

Sorry for the late reply snail.

I did visit the Cornish Studies Library and found out that I missed out on a presentation about the old Redruth Brewery only a few weeks earlier.

There is a guy I have been told to contact at a local society but they are going through a revamp on their website. By the end of the month the new site should be up and running so I will contact them then.

I did speak to my boss at the pub where I work today and he told me that the brewery sold out to Interbrew in the late 90's, so getting the recipes might be a little harder to get.

I do know a couple of guys down here that used to work at the brewery, so if I see them carbooting in the next few weeks I will ask them what they know.

Sorry I can't help much at the moment, but hopefully I will get there in the end.

By the way, where are you from in Lincolnshire.

If it was possible to get a recipe I would be very interested, beer from the land of my birth !

No apologies needed. I appreciate your efforts.

I'm from the South East of the county around the wash area. Not sure if your familiar with the area but the Market town of Holbeach is my birth.

Snail

Just a quick update and to say that I have not forgot about the Newquay Steam clone recipe.

The Trevithick Society Website should be up and running by next week  . Originally, the site should have been ready by the end of January but you know what its like down here.

While typing this I have just had a thought. A friend I worked with a few moons ago worked for the brewery in the nineties. I will give him a shout on FB and see what he comes up with.

Hello Snail...resurrected this one as i found some info on the Newquay steam.

Draught 1038 100% maris otter Fuggles Goldings and Progress to 30IBU

Thats ll i have,
hope it helps!

just found this thread ... newquay steam brings back memories from the no-care days (pre-kids n wife lol ) ... head down from manchester for the surf fest in the camper with about 6 others lol .... steam always seemed strong then ... maybe just age thing lol .... would be great to be able to brew it :thumb:

A real blast from the past. I remember buying this from Daniels in Hayle, filling a cool box and taking said coolbox onto the Towans for an excellent days sunbathing with my then girlfriend. That's got to have been 1984 or 85.
From memory when they originally started selling it they had Grolsh style flip top stoppers rather then the crown type of cap. An excellent ale and one I'd love to try to emulate.

Did you have a go, snail? If you're anything like me you'll have dozens more plans than time to brew!

I actualy plan to have a bash next weekend it will be the first brew through the new brewery set up. I sat down and worked out the grain weight and hop weight last night :D . Going to add a little wheat malt for head retention.
