Seems a bit strange being in a forum that encourages members to formally introduce themselves.

I'm Michael, 31 year old father of 2 from Dundee. I've been brewing for about 6 months (my 3rd batch is currently fermenting). I'm only using kits at the moment but when my kids both start school (they are 2 and 5mths at the mo) I might give all gain a go.

I learnt all I know from the Home Brewing thread on the SMB Sunderland AFC message board so decided to join a specialist board to expand my knowledge.

After having done 2 Woodforde's Wherry kits (it was so good I bought another), I'm now brewing a "Brewbarrel" brand German style pale ale (not the gimmicky keg brews they do, it's a proper LME kit with separate hop extract). Had a bit of a nightmare with a faulty hop extract bottle cap so only 3 of the 4 bottles went in - hopefully won't ruin my beer too much!

Outside of brewing I love music (all sorts - indie, hard rock, classic rock, singer-songwriter and a bit of hip hop - I have an unhealthy obsession with most musicians named Ben [Folds, Kweller and Lee in particular, love a bit of Harper too]), football (Sunderland AFC despite my location - I was born in Durham), Kevin Smith films, trashy TV and coffee.

Hopefully I'll find this forum as helpful as the SMB Homebreeing thread!

Welcome :hat:

I have joined lots of forums for my interests over the years and they all encourage new members to introduce themselves..... and it just seems like good manners to me. :thumb:

It's not just me then!

Didn't even introduce myself to the various people I was rolling with last night. I only know one and that was because I almost bust his leg.

They certainly seem to know their stuff here anyway - only joined a day or two ago myself. Certainly enough to keep you occupied anyway. Viel spass!

Most members just say something along the lines of "long time lurker joining to ask questions" some go into much more detail, as the forum description below says "new members are invited" it is not compulsory.

Introduce Yourself

New members are invited to tell the rest of the forum a bit about themselves and their brewing. Pop in and say hello to new members to make them feel welcome!

Always seems a little trite to post on intro, but I''ll do it anyway.
Ah. what to say. Always seems a bit hackneyed this part of a forum, lots of people saying hello. Does anyone read them. I guess I'll find out.

At the risk of repeating myself i replied to your thread two days ago saying - This forum may be a little trite but it gives new members a place to break the ice and isn't compulsory.

I didn't mean I thought it was a bad thing, I just meant I thought it was unusual. On the SMB if you tried to introduce yourself you'd be subject to a barrage of abuse, accused of being a Newcastke fan etc etc

Sunderland AFC

Welcome to the forum, but me and yee aren't ganna get on :nono: I'm from Whitley Bay originally and a big NUFC fan.

Hehe, just kidding like. You might be a Mackem, but I'll give you a fair crack. I did live in Sunderland for a while anyway, so I've still got friends there.

It's a helpful forum here, the most helpful I've ever been on.

Toon, toon.

Football fans forums are a nightmare, i used to moderate one teams forum on one a few years ago, it became a full time job removing trolls and abusive posts, i gave up in the end as it wasn't worth the effort.

At the risk of sounding trite - chill!

It wasn't a criticism, just an observation from personal experience. I don't really need an explanation of the function of an introduction.

I am very old hand at the internet (a long time before forums, google etc) and the idea of applying everyday social etiquette to electronic (non) introductions is alien to me as it is to most in the Western world.

As has been alluded to, in certain places you would be "torn a new one" for introducing yourself.

Also for using acronyms like "TIA" or suchlike. Even in the foreign language forums I frequent (the German Brewing ones are quite lively), it's still quite brutal at times.
