My first attempt at making wine I've used a Youngs kit from Wilkinsons in a demijon.

It's been bubbling for about 4 weeks after following all the instructions, but when I test it with a hydrometer it's only reading 30 and tastes really sweet, as if there's too much sugar left...

Is this normal? Or has the fermentation stopped to soon?

Sorry should add, it's a Red wine, cabaret sauvingon kit.

I take it you mean 1.030? is so its still got to drop plenty, i would give the DJ a shake and see if it restarts fementing.

It also helps if you mantain a constent temperature of between 18 and 20 degrees.

Yeah, I kinda gave it a damn good shake last week and left it to see if it would re-start and it didn't... is there anything I could add to kick start it again? I was thinking of adding possibly some more yeast?

Add some yeast nutrient as well as some more wine yeast and it should start to ferment again :thumb:
