Newbie question.

Hi, having done several kit brews I am ready for my first AG brew.

Am going to follow BrewStew's first AG guide (thanks for that it's great!), but am going to make this rather than the Rauchbier:

Have scaled all the quantities up to make 23l into the fermenter, using Beersmith.

Which means I'll end up dry hopping with 69g of Citra.

I am happy with everything I need to do, except...

When calculating losses do you/can you/should you include dry hop losses to work out initial liquor volume, or just the hops in the boil?

I may be overthinking it, but any advice welcome!

Well done for stepping over to the dark side, you won't look back:thumb: & enjoy the brew day.

I'm sure if you really wanted to you could work out all losses along the way to the drop.
In reality It will probably take you a couple of brews to work out your efficiency & your losses along the way. Initially I would just go with your own calculations & aim to get your wort in the Fv as close as you can to your target OG. If you get less than 23 litres or even more just live with it & make an adjustment for next time.
To answer your question I would say your volumes are calculated to achieve the final wort volume in the Fv. That's not to say there will be further losses with dryhopping, racking, bottling etc.

Losses through dry hopping? Just depends how you do it - there are several ways.
Assuming whole hops, not pellets, and you put them in a mesh bag then squeeze the bag dry after a few days, well the volume lost has to be pretty well nothing. Mind you, I wouldn't worry about it whatever you do.
