Hi everyone
Just wondering, if anyone has tried bottling using wine bottles and corks/rubber corks/screw tops instead of normal beer bottles? Which works better?
Seems like a cheaper and quicker option than buying a bottletop fitter and lots of smaller bottles.
Is there any issue do you think with fizz making the corks explooooooooode?
Cheers

The pressure will push the corks out you could try using champagne type corks but they will need wiring on personally its more trouble than its worth

Sorry Eddie, only half an answer there:

Ordinary wine bottles will not withstand any pressure!
You would end up with beer and broken glass everywhere. :nono:

You could use champagne bottles with stoppers and cages.

Bottle capper costs a tenner (cheaper than a corker, I think). Bottles are free, both from your mates and from the local pub if you're nice to them. Beer in wine bottles = disaster.

phew! Thanks for the heads up! I'd have made a big mess and my wife wouldn't have been too happy I think!
Will get a bottletopper asap and stop looking for an easy way out!
