Hi all,

I'm a complete new comer to home brewing about to embark on my first home brew. This seemed like a good place to learn some of the finer details in order to avoid disaster!

Cheers

Stephen

Thanks all

I must have read that how to almost a dozen times before finally deciding to take the leap and have a go.

I've gone for a geordies Yorkshire bitter kit but that was before reading a review on here so I'm a little worried about the final outcome now.

I wouldn't worry too much mate. Your first beer is always going to be a learning curve. You wouldn't expect to pickup a paintbrush for the first time and break the art scene, would you?
My first brew tasted of literally nothing. no bitterness, aroma, flavour and no head either, but i was stupid and didnt read up about what to do before i did it. The second was good and i'm hoping this will be a great one :)

That said, I'm sure yours will turn out great :thumb:

Welcome

Get that first brew on and get the first bit of learning done with your equipment and then whilst the bug bites get something else on right after ;).

I just tested the gravity of my fermenting brew and I'm quite happy its ready for barrelling tomorrow or Saturday. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting taste wise but I did think it seemed a little thin for want of a better word. I know it will improve in taste whilst in the barrel but will thin feel improve too?

Hi and welcome to the forum. It's a great place to learn. I wouldn't worry about your beer, it will get better with age. As has already been said, your first brew is a learning experience - I'm sure it will still be drinkable.

Well...its definitely drinkable! Maybe a little too drinkable! I'm sure I could achieve better results but as far as a first attempt goes I'm well chuffed. I will definitely be brewing more, my dad is already requesting a dark mild attempt!

Ohh and I just found out there is a home brew supply shop about 100yd from my house!

Cheers again!

glad it went well for you.
As to the LHBS being 100yard away, you're onto a winner there. Many people have to get on the motorway to get to theirs.
