Hi there, I'm new to brewing. My kids got me a basic kit ie a bucket and a pressure barrel and an ale brewing kit. I have followed the instructions and left it alone for 7 days after adding the yeast. Have just checked it and it looks like the yeast has settled on the top of the brew and not done anything. Any advice?

If you have a hydrometer, measure the gravity. Has the brew had a foamy head on it at any stage?

The foam and scum line suggest that fermentation has happened. I suggest you get hold of a hydrometer to measure the gravity. Wilko sells them, and tesco online do them and you can click and collect. Or a home brew shop if you are near one. Cost £3 - £4, you're going to need one. The beer can wait in the fermenter for a while.

Thanks, I'll get hold of one.
