Right 1st thing i hope ive put this in the right post .
As you know ive been brewing kits for a fair while so after your bad influence ive finally decided AG is my next step .
Ive aquired an aluminium beer keg which im converting into a boiler ive got my kettle elements and ball valve tap and other bits hopefully i will add some piccys as i build my boiler .
Ive still got to get mash tun and wort cooler but thats in the pipe line
Now comes the interesting bit !!! Its my birthday the middle of feb and ive decided to do an AG my Birthday brew I like stout, porter type beers so come on guys get your thinking caps on and give me some ideas :thumb:

Gail porter is a good brew and one that I have drunk with no conditioning ( bit flat ) tastes good straight from the fermenter as well, but your pushing for time tbh as you need 2 weeks for it to ferment out properly.
Rule of thumb I use is 2 weeks in the fermenter then 4 weeks in the cornie keg or 6 weeks when bottling.
So if you want a brew for your Bday best get it done this weekend so it sort of has time to do its thing. or next at the very latest. But this is my own personal opinion as I have 2 brews 4 weeks now in the Fv and another that is 3 weeks in the Fv as thay all stuck due to the cold. Happy days.

Try this it was my second AG brew and Mr TS came up with the recipe.

Radiant King(Anagram) Imperial stout
OG 1.090 abv 8.6 IBU About 50

5kg Pale malt
500g Black malt
250g crystal malt
250g chocolate malt

100g Fuggles 4% aa

One young's 1.5kg bitter kit

Mash the grains at 67C for 90 mins
Sparge as usual
Dissolve the kit in the wort collected from the grains before the heat is turned on
Boil for 90 min with the 100g of fuggles
Cool and pitch with two packs of SO4
Ferment (this will only drop to around SG 1.020), bottle or keg and mature for at least 6 months before trying (probably going to need a year)

31bb3,

If you get desperate for a chiller, then I am just down the road from you, by Barr beacon, and will happily lend you my immersion chiller (and spinney sparge arm setup) if you need them - so long as I get them back. Just send me a PM. I will not be using them in the very near future as I am planning on upgrading anyhow.

Homer.
