Hi,

Took delivery of my brewing kit at midday today and currently have the first batch (23L) of 'JOHN BULL COUNTRY CIDER' on the go.

Seemed pretty easy to get the cider to the fermenting stage.

We have a room where we are going to store the vessel. It is 19C in this room. What do you think the fermentation time will be on this?

Thanks,

Welcome & Hi to the forum :thumb:

There's no set rule for that Q...your temps ok keep it like that..you will find as you do more brews they will differ in the time it takes.

ps ..did the kit come with a hydrometer???

Im thinking about getting a heating band.

Thanks :D

Do you use kits or do you make your own little alterations to an kit or just all from scratch and what have you found to be the most successful cider you have done to date?

I generally make 24 litre batches of TC.
I keg 18 ltrs and bottle 6 ltrs in 500ml PETs.
The keg I leave for 8 weeks and the bottles for 6 months (some times wishful thinking).
Once a year, if I can get the apples, I make the real McCoy.
The most sucessful TC to date was from Aldi apple juice (56p/ltr).

Do you have your own apple press?

I thought about making one but then I got distracted (I saw a robin or a spider or something). I checked up on the price of an off-the-shelf cider press before going down to Sainsbury's and buying 10l of juice from concentrate so I could get comatose for a weekend for a fiver.

Meanwhile, the apples pile up on the lawn...
