Just goes to show what a little planning at the end of a brew can do.

10 Litres of Rose WoW on and a Better brew Export Lager on in 30 minutes.

Everything was cleaned sanitised and sprayed down with Starsan at the end of the last brew, all I had to do was give the FVs a quick wash and a spray with starsan while I put the kettle on, then while the sugar dissolved in the 2.5L cup of tea I put the juices into the FV and then sugary tea water on top, pectolase, nutrient and yeast in. Check temps, bang on 20. Done.

17L cold water into the FV, dissolved my DME in a kettle of boiling water then packet in rinsed with boiling water, check temps, spot on 22, aerate and pitch. Done.

Who said brew days take a long time?

Quite proud of myself for that lightning bit of work...

Somehow I don't think AG will be that quick...

Great result for "Time and Motion" study ...

... and there's no reason why the finished products shouldn't come good so "Win-Win" as they say! :thumb: :thumb:

It took me just over four hours to do an AG kit this afternoon with everything cleaned and tidied away.

Just arrived downstairs to a wonderful chorus of bubbling airlocks! The gentle burbling means everything is good so far...

I've read many brewday posts, and I do find the fact that some brewdays take much longer than others a tad strange. Unless there are some serious delays, I would have thought that everyone would be around 4-4 1/2 hours given the processes involved and the timing of them.

Its not really a brewday so much as a brew morning or a brewfternoon (I'm trademarking that word, doesnt it roll off the tongue so well?)

Now Ive said this, my first one will be a nightmare and end up taking me 12 hours...

If you plan everything ahead like I just did, you will do your first AG in just over 4 hours :)

I know a lot of us AG but you cannot moan with knocking together a quick beer kit in 20 mins or so!!
Hell no. 20 minutes for 40 pints of good beer at a cost of 20 quid? How can anyone moan at that?

The joy of AG for me is that it gives me plenty of breaks to mop up whatever I have spilled ... :thumb:

... and I NEVER have a drink until "Tidy up time." as even without beer I can mess things up.

Yesterday got off to a good start when I began to fill the boiler and discovered that I had left the tap open.

Fortunately, I'm not stupid so I closed the tap when my feet started to get wet ...

... and mopped it up whilst the strike water was heating! :thumb: :thumb:

I inevitably do a stupid thing. Made a mild last Friday, was fly sparging with hot water from the HLT. Turned the valve off to let the sparge water drain a bit before adding more and turned my back to look for my hydrometer to check how much sugar was left in. Got back to my sparge and found the valve full on and all the water poured into the mash.
Got around 83% efficiency though. Dunno how much astringency from oversparging the grain, think it's OK, didn't taste any.
I once tried cooling my beer by attaching my immersion cooler to the mixer tap and turning on the hot water instead of cold. Took ages to work out why the beer wasn't cooling.

I don't know how people get down to near 4 hours. Still got quite some process tweaking to get me anywhere near that. Saved loads of time this last brew by preheating mash tun, starting boiler after first batch sparge, using loads of ice in the chilling recirc, etc. Still took probably 6 hours in all, if I include weighing grain, treating water, etc. which I did the day before.

I think it's my chosen approach & choice of equipment that holds me back a bit. Just the 3 vorlauf's on a double batch sparge eat into the time on their own. Also, I move my chiller around to increase chilling efficiency, so I must leave the chilled sweet wort for 30 minutes or so to let the sludge drop. It all adds up. But I'm never, well, hardly ever, sitting around doing nothing. Prepping hops, calculating mash efficiency, taking grain to neighbour for chicken feed, clean-up. Pretty much on the go through the whole process.

I leave my tap open to dry out between brews, so consequently, I do this almost every time. My wife always knows what I've done when she hears me call myself a *******.
