Hi folks, just a quick bit of good news (for me anyway) I got offered a job yesterday after 7 months furlough and 5 months unemployment after being made redundant at the end of October 2020. I'm employed doing a very similar job to what I was doing before but instead of driving around the country I will be workshop based and really looking forward to working again.....SWMBO not so happy as she will have to make her own lunches and cuppa's :D

Nothing messes with your sense of identity and confidence like not having a job

You'll be awesome Bb
I did a days work for them for free just to prove to them that I could do the job, and it got me the job. At 57 I didn't think I would be working again in the same trade but perseverance has paid off, I start just after Easter. athumb..

Excellent stuff and good luck...
Nice to have a stable base for work as I travelled around from job to job for 8 years and terribly irregular times depending on the job....

Congratulations. You must be very pleased. I know what it is like to be made redundant and then get to the point where the redundancy money is running out and you are wandering how you will pay the mortgage and all the other bills next month. I was 43 when it happened to me and people said then I'd be lucky to get another job.

After 23 years of driving around doing sales, I went back to being a machinist at the same company I left to take the sales job. I was out of work two months.

Parts can weigh a couple tons. Most everything is lifted with an overhead crane. Big bolts and nuts to hold things down, big wrenches to pull on them. I lost 9 pounds in the first two months.

When I worked here previously I worked making smaller parts. This is a whole new world. Part I finished today I worked on for five days.

Not as young as I used to be by no means.

Glad you're working again.

It's great that you can share it here @Banbeer . Just shows the respect and cameraderie gained through sharing here.

That's an ace feeling being able to give a day of your time in the confidence that you'll land your prize, hook line and sinker. Brilliant.

Thanks for your kind words, the money wasn't a problem as I had savings but no redundancy pay as I'd only been in that company for a year and a half after getting made redundant at my previous job.
