Hello,

Just joined the forum so I can get help from you all. Please could someone send me a link to a guide on All grain brewing, Have done a few Extract kits and want to move on to bigger projects. I would ideally want to have a go at brewing a Fosters Clone. I am looking at buying a 30L Cool Box and making into a mash tun and looking at buying a 30L water boiler (Tea Urn) for the boiling part. Along with making a coil for the immersion chiller. Would be really helpful if someone had a good guide to read on All Grain as literally starting fresh here.

Many Thanks

Adam

Thanks for responses, no so positive then. Ill look into the guide by Palmer then, Do you guys think the equipment I have listed that I am going to get sound acceptable for the budget?

Cheers

Are you sure you want to get all the kit just to make a lager clone when you can get 8 cans of the proper stuff for a fiver from the corner shop?

Im getting all the equipment for various brews, wouldn't buy the equipment for the sake of one product. Is there any particular lager product you could recommend??

Heheh, the rotters are having a laugh, don't be put off, when you do a grain brew it will be your own recipe or like you seem to intend a copy of something you like. You have a computer so download brewtarget (its free) or something similar and have a look at how recipe's are configured. juggle the quantities around to see what happens, all will be clear. That should give you an idea of how to get to where you want to be.

Seriously, if you like fosters then try to make a clone of it, nobody can tell you what you can't and can't enjoy...we might just question how well your taste buds are functioning! ;-)

I was a full time lager yob for 35 years, tried everything else but always went back to lager. But I've now seen the light, I'm still amazed at the quality you can get from these kits - especially the 2 can kits.
I've tried 3 lager kits and to be honest they haven't come out that great. I joined this site thinking I would try all grain brewing but I'm more than happy with the results I'm getting with a plastic bucket and sticking to the instructions plus you can get a brew on the go in less than an hour.
Coming from a lager drinker I'd recomend a golden ale, serve it cold and it's like a really nice lager but far,far more tasty. St Peters is very good but the Festival Golden Stag is one of my favourites because it comes with hops which I didn't used to like. Also some of the IPA kits are very good.
Good luck with whatever you choose, you'll get some great help from here

Okie dokie mate, thank you, literally just starting out at homebrew and finding first steps of all grain, is there any bitter you could recommend as a good first drink? cheers

I'd go for a bohemian Pilsner like Pilsner Urquell clone. It's an easy drinking malty lager with a great balance of hops. But don't let anyone put you off brewing what you like, we've all got our guilty secrets

No one's mentioned the brew in a bag method? Pretty simple and a slightly cheaper set-up. Google "brew in a bag" and you should find something. Can't really answer your other questions as I only do one gallon batches.
