I ordered a new FV from GEB which arrived on Friday. Having looked at it, it has a big scratch on the inside which is covered in brown stuff, tacky to the touch and rough, like it's been sanded.

Everything I've read about sanitising says to regularly check FVs and bin anything with scratches as they're a big risk of infection.

Is this FV useless before I've even used it?

(pictures are shoddy, really hard to focus on a white curved plastic surface)

Just to update on this, they immediately offered to send out a new one, which arrived with another tap, grommet, bubbler and little bottler, which I definitely wasn't expecting. I'll keep the original to store grain, and keep the bits for spares.

Great service, thanks for the advice.
