Hello guys,

I am Fabian from Nottinham :) Just had my 20th on Monday and got myself a Beer Brewing Kit.
I was looking for ages to get one and finally did it. I am totally new to brewing and just setup my fermentation tank. Although having troubles cooling it (see picture attached) I am trying my best to keep it between 18-21 Celsius. I've got no fan or anything. Every 5 hours I change my Ice packs to keep the batch cool enough :)

Hope to find lots of ideas here and learn a lot about home brewing - I can't wait for my first "home made" pint.

Hope to get to talk to people.

Fabian :)

PS: My first batch (lid is still not on as I have not reached 20 Celsius yet to put in the yeast.

Welcome to the forum Fabian :thumb: and congrats on the b-day and the brew

First of all, sanitise the lid and get it on that bucket. The last thing you want is a fruit fly or worse falling in and spoiling your brew  If you don't have an airlock put the lid on and then lift up one corner to break the seal
Is it too hot still?

Hey, Lid is on now and im still waiting :) Im at 21.7 celsius :) So still another half an hour and i might be there :)

21 degrees :) Yeast is going in now :) And then I will cool it a bit further and check tomorrow morning again :)

You're already there, get it pitched, it'll be fine :thumb: There will be a 'lag time' of at least 12 hours using dry yeast, before the yeast starts to generate any heat of its own, so the fv will keep dropping in temp during this time.
You can also use wet towels wrapped around the fv to keep it cool. Keep an eye on the fv at 24-48 hours, the yeast will be generating a lot of heat by then ;) Make sure you crack that lid slightly, yeast produce lots of C02, though don't make the gap big enough for flies to get in ;)
You should also consider removing the tape from the inside of the fv, the glue could/probably is harbouring 'nasties', so give the area a good wipe with sanitiser after removing it :thumb:

Welcome to the forum Fabian.

Just keep asking the questions as between us we have made all the mistakes possible and will hopefully help you avoid them.

Just got myself a fan with the towel technique it stays spot on at 20 degrees Celsius :) Now waiting until Sunday :)

Welcome to the forum :drink:

Cooling is a bit of a challenge in this temperature, as you look around the site you will find a number of people use fridges, which they convert to maintain a constant 20C temp for fermenting in.
