Hello,

I've just started into the world of homebrew and can't wait to have my first sip.

I done a lot of researching through these forums before I started or even bought any supplies so now I've got a brew going I wanted to sign up and contribute to such a great resource.

I've had a Young's kit going for about 12 days now and tonight is bottling time. Hopefully no spillages but to be honest I'll be happy if it comes out of the FV as anything more than drain cleaner. I've been justifying the cost saving to my wife so pouring the first batch out will be a bad start.

The general question for those new to Home Brewing is to check if you've taken a hydrometer reading before you bottle? 12 days might be absolutely fine, but a check to see if the Gravity has reached it's target might save problems with overactive beer in bottles!! If you have done that, happy bottling!

Yeah I'm going to take a gravity reading before I do anything else but I think it should be fine. I've had the FV submerged in water with an internal temp of 22 degrees.

For this I made a hole in the lid of the FV and inserted a probe thermometer then used a glue gun to seal it all up again before sterilizing everything. It means I've been able to take a digital reading anytime without having to open the lid at all.

Another NI brewer, welcome aboard.

The hard part is waiting, your beer will get better with age. I'm sure you'll love your new hobby.

Welcome
