Hi All,

I need some advice from any computer gurus out there. I am looking to get a netbook but if possible only want to spend around £200. Any ideas of makes/moldels to look at? Any not to look at. I realise for this price it aint goint to have all the bells and whistles, but I will not be using this to play games, only usual internet/skype/email etc. So any suggestions?

I have looked at these two so far whick look ok:

Asus 1015CX-BLK019S 10.1" Eee PC Black Windows 7 Starter (Atom N2600/320GB/1GB DDR3/6 Cell) Comes in at £224 DETAILS

ASUS X101CH-BLK043S10.1" NETBOOK Comes in at £180 from Comet DETAILS

Comments?

Thanks

For a netbook I would always lean towards Samsung. Their netbooks are really fantastic for the cash. Not so sure you would get a decent one under £250 though.

If your working on a tight budget it is worth having a look at refurbished netbooks you tend to be able to get more for your money. It is important to check why they were refurbished though, if it was because of minor cosmetic damage then fair enough but if it was because of component failure I would steer clear of it.

Thanks for the replies. I don't want to extend my budget any more than I have to. Any thoughts on the two I listed? I always thought Asus was a reasonable make.

I bought an ASUS 1005 netwbook at Dubai airport several years ago and its still going strong. I added a bit more RAM but I saved and extra 70 quid buying it there. Only drawback is it has a semi-arab keyboard so unless you can touch type its not ideal  Keeps others in the house from nicking it. :thumb: Batttery life is still excellent.

I build all my own PCs so know a bit about 'em and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one of these.

The only differences I can see is that the Samsung used DDR2 rather than 3 which is used in both Asus. Although a different review of the Samsung says it has DDR3. The other difference seems to be the processor cache. 512mb for Samsung and 1mb for Asus. Samsung states Cedar chip set while Asus just says Intel Atom. But to be honest I don't have a clue which is better or worse or how much difference the different specs make.

It's the same processor in all 3 netbooks so same cache etc. It's DDR3 that's in the Samsung, don't trust the Comet spec, notorious for being full of bull... I just linked to it to show the cost.

The specs are all very similar and will make next to no odds. I would side with the Samsung for build quality and Screen quality. It's about personal choice, I've never had one and don't plan to have one. I looked into them a year or so ago for my Nephew and the consensus was that Samsung was the best buy for cost vs quality etc.

Thanks for that. As the Samsung is the same price as the Asus I will go with your reccommenation.

No problemo.

A little trip to comet/currys etc wouldn't go amiss. With the specs being so similar it really does come down to the look and feel of the kit rather than the brand :)
