Need a little advice before i begin

Hi still waiting for my last thing off e-bay before i can start my first batch :x Anyway i will be brewing the coopers Australian Lager and i want it to be as clear as a lager you would get from the supermarket (hoping anyway). So i have purchased some beer finnings from wilkinsons which i intend to put in after fermenting as stopped and leave for another 2 day (as instructed). I plan to bottle the Lager with drops too carbonate.

So my question is will the finnings kill the yeast so the bottles will not carbonate or will it be fine?

2 will i still get sediment in my bottles if i do or do not use the finnings??

What kind of finings are you using? I just use supermarket variety gelatin. I do that in the secondary though. It still leaves enough yeast to carbonate.
 
If you want clearer cleaner lager then ferment for at least 10 days , then add finnings and drop temp if poss and leave around 4 more days , then after bottling (after you have left bottles in warmth for 2 more weeks ) you want to leave bottles in cool for at least 4 more weeks or longer , this allows the yeast/protein etc time to drop out of the beer and you should get good clear lager.
 
The finings are chitosan (the shell fish one) from wilko beer finings only £1 so thought why not give it a try.. Was thinking about 2 months in total waiting time but planned on a bottle a week after the 1st month just too see what the taste and quality would be like at each stage..

Also another question is kegging better that it being bottled i would prefer bottled for storage time but kegging seem alot less hassle, if i use c02 bulbs or the canister, but not sure on the storage life if i start too have a drink. i.e would i need too drink the full keg within a short space of time or should it be ok if i keep it topped up with co2???

I assume your taking about the white pressure barrel? If so they don't offer the same pressurised environment as bottles, so your lager won't be fizzy.

I'd go with the bottles, it's short term pain for long term gain.

Yer i thought it it wouldn't. Il keep with the bottles and buy some more as i have only about 50 500ml bottles..

You will still get sediment in your bottles but the beer itself should be clear, even without using finings, if you leave it long enough to clear. The only way to avoid the sediment is to filter it and force carbonate. Or I think you can keg it in a corny, let the sediment drop and then bottle from there, along with forced carbonation. Seems like a lot of hassle since the sediment does no harm if you pour carefully.

Hi Buddy!

I too have just made my first batch. All my kit came through on saturday and I put everything together on sunday afternoon. It is now doing its thing in my kitchen. So far everything to my untrained eye looks ok.

I am also using the Coopers lager kit - so if you like, we can compare progress and results. I have pretty much followed the book and havent changed anything like you are planning to, so might cool to see the differences?
