Mystery object

I was kindly given lots of bits n pieces a few years ago.
None for grain brewing; bottles, demi John's, stoppers etc.
I found this piece while having a sort out yesterday.
Anyone any idea what's it for?
I don't think it's to hold a syphon tube to the side of the FV
