Oh dear... what to do, another two kits were delivered to me today.

That is four I now have backlogged, and two on the go (both four days into fermentation). How hard am I sitting on my hands not to buy another couple of bins to get started.

I think I'll have to pick at random which to do next as I probably couldn't make a rational decision. I "can't" drink them for three months anyway, so no point in rushing is there

It is probably such a good thing that my agri centre has run out of 30L barrels, otherwise my dining area would be completely over run with various brews at different stages.

Seriously, if you like a beer and the odd cider you need at least five FVs.

Three for round-robin brewing, racking and dry hopping, one dedicated bottling bucket and one for aging cider for months on end...

Ooops, sorry...

Have to agree with the numbers there, but I think you need more if you are aging cider.

I have a 23L glass carboy, 2 buckets and a "wine" vessel (can be used for anything). I was struggling over the last few weeks so I'm going to need to get another bucket just for bottling.

For the cider aging I'm ordering 25L water bottles from ebay. Think they are about £6 each. and ideal for the job.

Calum makes a good point but you can keep costs down by getting FVs from alternative sources.

I bought 2 FVs then picked up to empty 20L plastic jerry can things from the bins of a resturant (they used to contain oil, now cider to let it age). With my 2 FVs i was having trouble keeping supplies up and happened to find a empty mango chutney barrel att the back of an indian resturant. After soaking for a week with bicar and lemon it is perfect to brew/bottle with.

Or by looking in your local ad-site. Down here in Bristol we have TradeIt and Gumtree, and there are normally bargains to be found. You can also keep a search on eBay auctions that are local to you (I tend to keep it within 10 miles to keep fuel costs down).

I recently picked up a screw top 25L fermenter, a 25L bucket, heating mat, various brewing accessories and 2 dozen thick green glass wine bottles for just over a fiver. Another haul was a 25L bucket, Pressure barrel and 4 demijohns for the same amount. Bargain!

You've got the right idea :thumb:

Keep building that stash ...................

And get ya camera out again!!!

I feel your pain (is that the right word?)

I got a 40 pint Pilsner on the go at the moment for my second brew... no where to stick it when it comes out of the FV mind! I just wanted to get something else going, didn't really think too much about where I was going to put it for it's secondary fermentation. And there's a DJ with WOW fermenting as well... although that's a ways off, plenty of time to collect a few wine bottles.

I'm thinking pressure barrel at the weekend.

It'll get a lot worse if you keep going

But brewing ahead of yourself gives you the opportunity to let stuff mature/condition so it's lush :thumb:

And then eventually....

You photograph your stash, and put it on one of my threads :thumb:

Oh I'm under no illusion mate... I've already warned the wife that come Christmas, we'll probably have enough booze to float the Ark Royal

Funny thing is, she seems quite partial to the idea!

To solve your storage problems, take the easy option

Get a son... wait 20 years and your problem is solved... the faster you make it..... the faster it goes. guaranteed.

Don't forget it hass to go somewhere when fermentation has finished ;)

I've got 4 FVs, 6 pressure kegs, about 80 0.5 litre bottles, a coupld of dozen 2 litre PET bottles and 8 x 3 litre PET bottles, and I'm in danger of running out of space to put the 7 remaining kits (Tesco sale, the buggers) when they are brewed up.

And that ^^ doesn't even get into what the hell I'm gonna do with the 14 demi johns of WOW type wine and Turbo Cider I've got fermenting or maturing in various spots around the house.

I really didn't plan this very well, unlike my parents, I've no kids so consumption is primarily down to me, with the occasional bit of help from a friend :D

The problem is it's soo much fun to see the ingredients go from shop phase to drinkable phase, and it tastes good too :D
