Hey guys, today I started my first wow,
It's made from a carton of orange juice, purple grape juice, about 800g of sugar (I guessed) some pectolase, about 5ml of glycerin, a cuppa (no milk) and the usual yeasty bits.
Some water made it in there also.

I am going to try to force carbonate this and bottle it... I did say try.

Good god this made a mess yesterday, blew all out the airlock so I needed to put a blow off rig on it.

I got caught out with my first WOW last week too. Thought I had left it long enough before I topped up and orange goo all over. I took the little cap off the airlock, and covered with an upside-down sterilized cottage cheese pot over the top for a couple of days and the goo didn't rise up to the lock. No oxygen gets in due to the constant flow out of CO2, I think.

well ive just racked this into a fresh DJ with some stabalizer to start clearing.
I got a few mouthfuls starting the syphon and ive got to say that its already pretty tasty!

well I bottled today, I got 6 bottles from my DJ (horaay!) but managed to smash one corking (I wacked the corker to hard)

it certainly looks the part, ive now just got to make some labels :)

label made and added

I am really pleased with how it looks, just need to wait a few more weeks to try it :)

sadly not as Im carbonating some ale at the moment, I only bottled this today because I needed the DJ.
I hope to carbonate the next batch (will be made the same way) so I can see which is nicer to drink.

First 2 WOWs started in the last 3 days, both now fizzing and blurping away contentedly as per - mostly - Moley's suggestions, at an ambient 20C. OG was +/- 1.100

#1 is OJ and Welch's white grape and Peach, Gervin wine yeast.

#2 is red grape juice and OJ and more experimental:the shops were shut so I used the Allinson yeast I make bread & pizza with. Time alone will tell if that was a mistake... But if so I can take it on the chin for the sake of £2.50

I went the pectolase, strong tea and tomato paste route with both, using 5L PET bottles, then added proper yeast nutrient this morning as I topped up from 4.5L to 5.

The sulphurous odour that made the house smell like a school chemistry lab yesterday has gone away. Many thanks for Rob's reassurance on that. How brilliant to be on a forum that offers instant advice!

My own tip is to drill the hole in the water bottle lid at 8 mm to get a snug fit for the airlock.

This is all great fun!
