Hey guys I'm new to this forum so hello!

I've just finished my first ever batch of cider and I think it turned out pretty okay except
I took it out a little bit early, a bit of fermentation was still happening but my hydrometer dropped by a lot so I thought it was okay. It was just below the yellow 'bottle' sign.

I just have a few questions if possible.

1. Is it okay to drink the cider if its still fermenting? I thought if i did that It would be gassy which it was :)

2. When i started syphoning the cider into the 2 litre plastic bottles, it still didn't clear?? I thought syphoning was for that lol?

3. Just to be on the safe side i froze it overnight and once it was defrosted the next day it had cleared a fair amount but there was loads of "I think" dead yeast on the bottom and whenever i drank some it would appear on the bottom of my glass which wasn't very nice lol. It had a sandy grey appearance. how can i sort that out?

Anyways, I understand if you can't answer all my questions because their so long lol.

Regards,

melpa

Thanks for the reply guys.............

Won't be using this forum again lol!

Drinking anything that is still fermenting wiil lead to wind if You know what I mean!

Won;t really do any physical harm though.

Freezing it is a good way to get the yeast out of suspension.

Pour carefully next time and the sediment should stay in the bottle.

otherwise give it a bit more time and see how it goes.

Suit yourself. I read your question but hadn't replied because I don't do cider, but I think your main problem is impatience.

1. Like BZ says, drinking a fermenting brew won't harm you but may give you the trots.

2. Racking or bottling gets the good stuff off the dead yeast but you still need to leave the bottles for a while for it to clear. Could take a couple of weeks, could take a couple of months.

3. Freeezing drops all sorts of **** out of suspension and it does form a sandy grey silt, just pour it very carefully.
