My first brew

Hi folks,

I got my first brew underway last night, A Coopers Australian lager kit, it was very simple to do and took me about 45 mins from start to finish. I must admit i was a bit paranoid about keeping everything sterile and clean and was scared to even breath near the equipment lol.

Fermenter filled to 21.5L
The OG was 1.039
Start Temp 22c

This morning 12 hours later the temp has remained at 22c, and there is a light ammount of froth on the top, so i'm guessing that seems about right?

There is also alot of sediment in the bottom that has settled over night. Is that normal or have i not stirred it enough? Should i give it a stir or leave it be?

Thanks guys, its looking alot more active now, its alot frothier on top and the temp has gone upto 24c. Roll on first tasting.
 
Try to get it a little cooler if you can. 18-20c ideally.

If you can't easily do it, don't worry but make a note for your next brew :thumb:
 
This was my first beer too, gets pretty good after a month or so in the bottle, hope you enjoy it

Thanks Joey, i've got it in the kitchen i'll open the back door and let some cool air in, the ambient room temp will drop quite a bit. The instructions said get the temp to within 21-27c when making it up but never said anything about lowering it afterwards grrr.
 
They suggest that temp because the yeast will work quickly at that temp and finish within the time the can says, its better to brew at around 18-20 and let the yeasties take their time, leaving it in the fv for around ten days will help too
 
Well i've learned something new already which which i'm sure will make me a better brewer, cheers guys.

checked the temp this morning and its showing 20-22c so ive managed to get it to drop a couple of degrees.
