Evening all

was bottling tonight and was peeved to find that my box of coopers pet bottles had a lot of mouldy bottles in it

I keep my used bottles outside after use, always washing out thoroughly and giving a squirt of starsan. I didn't always screw the caps on tight/at all. Some of my grolschies werena bit like that too (in another box)

I don't have the option of storing inside really cos there's so many haha. I thought the starsan would haven inhibited any nasties including mould.

I cleaned them up with a sinkful of starsan and put them back in the box after cleaning it up and screwing the lids on tightly.

Any hints or tips to stop them going mouldy again ?

Bleach and sanitise them just before you are bottling, whats growing on the inside will also be growing on the outside though not as visibly, a quick rinse before you place them outside and then an oxi bleach/sanitise one before you bottle. You could also use them to store your mixed starsan in, though as frosty weather approaches that could end you up with broken bottles.

Make sure they're dry before storing. I just rinse mine with plain water, leave upside down to drain properly then leave in the house for a few days to dry properly before storing in the shed, in plastic boxes with lids. Never have any issues. I think it's the drying that's most important, storing anything wet is an open invitation to mould

thats my mistake then, they were a bit damp and boxes didn't seal too well either. Looks like I'll be bringing them back in to dry!

On a similar point, I'm storing my latest wows in the shed. When I was putting some in the other day the batch in there was covered in condensation from being cool then less cool presumably. I suppose I don't need to ask if these will go mouldy unless dried and stored somewhere dry without temperature fluctuations 😯

looks like b&q for me at the weekend then !

ah managed to find a corner of the understairs cupboard and pop a shelf in there, had some spare mdf so no cost involved (apart from my valuable time of course) 😆
