A very thoughtful mate of mine spotted a Milestone brewing kit in Morrisons for £16 and kindly bought me one (its the Crusader). Now having read a fair few posts on here, I knew that the reason they would be cheap was more than likely because the date is due... and sure enough Best Before of May 2012!

Any advice on what to expect with something that is that close to it's shelf life? Should I be looking to use a new pack of yeast rather than what's in there? Or add some more ingredients to replace any flavours that might have gone off, for example make a hop soup up? Personally I view best before dates as a guideline rather than a hard and fast throw it away once it's passed, so I've got no problems using the kit, just like to be prepared!

Cheers :thumb:

Not tried one myself, but I'd agree with you about it being more of a guideline. The tins should be fine but as you mentioned might be worth sticking some new yeast in there although if its all foil packed that too *should* be ok.

So, I haven't answered your question after all that, sorry!
