Was able to try Meantime's London Pale Ale last week. Wasn't anything to write home about to be honest. Their website says it has 'a hop sack' aroma. Less hop, more ball if you ask me. Anyone tried any of their other brews?

yes... more than a little average across the board if you ask me! They are also buying taps in London at a rate of knots. One of the larger micros in London, I believe they have also just been bought out by SAB Miller so would expect a further reduction in quality brews.

Yep, sold out, will appear everywhere at a very average standard, I suspect.

Totally over rated. all their beers are average in taste and way above average in price. They've marketed their product very well in London in particular and have been riding the craft brewery trend very well.

I quite like their Yakima Red, but yea their Pale Ale is average in my books. The great thing is about their expansion into more run of the mill bars is that you actually get a half decent beer if there's nothing else around. I know, you could probably just move bars, but life isn't always about that :P

I've been really disappointed on the few occasions I've tried Meantime beers. Seems like a craft beer con artist at work to me. All the marketing and none of the substance.

I did like their porter the first time I tried it, with a cork stopper and cage, it was very nice without being great. A couple of years later I tried another and I won't be bothering again.

Had a London porter they brew on behalf of M&S at the weekend and it was a bit underwhelming for me, would have much preferred a Fullers London Porter which has more depth and body in my opinion, from the general consensus on here looks like I won't be seeking out any of their other beers...

The meantime brewery is just down the road from me in Greenwich. I seemed to remember liking their chocolate porter when a I tried it a number of years ago but their beer is piss takingly expensive so I haven't bought it in years

Did their brewery tour last Monday. loved it, we had the beer tasting first, then merrily headed into the factory afterwards. it's not cordoned off like the Guinness tour we were actually in amongst the bags of grain etc. I love the lack of H&S zelotry they had there. There were even items left on the stairs, a jug etc, which I managed to catch on the way down with my foot.

Their wheat beer was nice a clove'y rather than bubblegum/banana but the germans still do better.

They do have fools gold as a seasonal and a chocolate porter which are ok, but I still prefer brewdog. Their oak aged 7.5% ipa was nice but not at £10 a bottle.

So I have to say I enjoyed the tour more than their beers.

The guide was entertaining and honest... 'when we couldn't sell one of our our beers we put in in a posh bottle and shipped to the states, they lapped it up' :-P
