How long should mead take to ferment and what should be the finished gravity because i have one that has been fermenting for 2 months and is still up around 1040 i have tried adding sultanas and also a high alcohol yeast but still seems to be going v slow and still only bubbles every couple of mins please help as i have never tried a mead before

it could take several weeks.. maybe a few months.. but best to let it age for at least 2 years. if your FV (fermentation vessal) is too cold, then it will take significantly longer. different yeast strands take different times to ferment too.

Good luck! :)

I think temperature has a lot to do with it, a friend who got me into making mead told me the batch I tasted took him6 weeks to ferment but mine using the same recipe and yeast is currently at 8 weeks and still bubbling pretty strong.

I think mead is just a waiting game.

Cheers

Ive done mead a couple of times and 2 on the go now: one took 14 weeks the other 16 weeks. Im told temp does make a difference.

2 on the go one for 12 weeks and bubbling very slowly so should finish in a few weeks because a couple of raisans have dropped to the bottom and the other only 6 weeks old.

Mine tasted ok after 2 months but much better by 4 and 6 months.

just done another reading and its down to 1020 now so hopefully not longtill bottling and conditioning in time for xmas and then keep a couple of bottles back for extra long maturation ( yeah right lol)
