First of all thanks to MD for sending me a couple of bottles of this to try :thumb:
I'm no expert on reviewing beers but i'll give it a shot
Slight hiss when opened the bottle
First smell from bottle neck was of roasted coffee not overpowering and hint of chocolate malty kind of smell given its strength it did not smell strong.
It poured nicley and i was rewarded with a nice creamy head and similarly to the bottle i could smell the coffee and chocolatly malty stout smell but the alcohol smell was strong not unpleasant like the smell off a strong red wine.
First taste was a very pleasing thick/smooth mouthfeel then a roast coffee bitterness which quickly mellows into sweet smooth malt flavour the aftertaste is strong alcohol then the coffee and malt flavours come through but as I sip more the alcohol melows and I can taste coffee chocolate and malt.
This was a nice strong stout (I've had half of it and feel though I've had a few) but in my opinion it would benifit of a reduction in ABV to let the coffee chocolate malt flavours to be more pronounced.
This is one for my to make list as it would make a superb winter/xmas ale well done MD :thumb:
