Mash Tuns and Acheiving Strike Temp

I'm thinking about using a spare FV as mash tun. I would heat my mash liquor in my pot on my stove then jug it into the FV/MT.

The question I have is surely I would lose some heat from the liqouor as it poured into the MT. How would I prevent this. I've read people warm their MT's prior to mashing with some hot water. Would doing this help?
 
I preheat my tun with a kettle of boiling water first. And heat my water a couple of degrees higher than strike temp because I always loose a few when transferring. I do use the tap on my hlt though, if your juging it in you probably won't loose as much.
 
Another option is to add your strike water (at a couple of °C over required temp) to the empty mashtun, leave for 15 or 20 mins, then adjust with some boiling or cold water to achieve your required strike temp. Then dough in your grain and start the mash.

Works for me with my stainless thermopot.
 
I always put a kettle of boiling water in the mash tun for a few mins then empty and add grain and water, but you could just have the water at a higher temp. You are always going to loose heat to the grain temp anyway.
 
I've used the FV on a few occasions and as recently as last week and no issues.
Dependant on your grain bill and grain temp.To aid your stable temp wrap a sleeping bag,quilt or a camping mat around the FV with a cushion or towels on top.Lost 1° over an hour.

As above, my Mash Tun is a home made insulated plastic bucket and I just whack a full kettle full of water into it whilst heating my water and empty it just before use.

How much benefit it has in real terms is unknown but it feels like it should help :-)
