I have just noticed that my ASDA coolbox/mash tun is only a 24 ltr size, is that big enough for a 5 gallon brew.

The reason i ask is that i noticed someone else had said their cool/box mash tun was 27 ltr.

Thanks.

I suspect I have the same coolbox - I got it from ASDA and it was 24l. As long as you don't want a grain bill bigger than about 5.5kg, and you're not batch sparging it will be grand.

Yes it's big enough for "normal" beers :thumb:
You might struggle to brew an imperial stout though ;)

Thanks jamesb and tuby, its highly unlikely ile want to brew a stout, so i guess ile be ok then.

james is the ASDA cool box well enough insulated or will it need extra.

I was reading somewhere that, one cool box was not insulated enough so the guy took it to peace's and added extra insulation.

Cheers.

I added more insulation before I used it for the first time. It comes apart quite easily. Just put some sheets of expanded polystyrene around the sides and bottom, and open the top and put a load in there - there isn't any in there as standard.

I also hot glued the seals together so that water couldn't get inside. That's optional though.
