There seems to be a lot of "dancing" on this forum around mashing. There are a number of brewers here who really understand what's going on in that mash tun. More should read a bit just to gain a real understanding of the inner-workings of that bio-reactor we call a mash tun.

Very interesting read - I had wondered about the impact of starting a mash 'cold' - adding the grain before my all in one is turned on, then allowing to heat to mash temp - I wondered if this would shorten the mash, or have any other benefits. But since I normally brew very early, I currently set up the water the night before and put it on a timer - where as this would add an hour to my morning as my water gets up to temp
