I hope his cellmates are dog lovers and give him a taste of his own medicine.

A man has been jailed after repeatedly punching his dog in the head in a public park.

Robert Black, 51, from Newbury, was caught on CCTV hitting the animal five times in the town's Victoria Park.

He was found guilty of one count of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal at Reading Magistrates' Court.

He was sentenced to 23 weeks in prison and banned from owning animals for 10 years.

PC David Burleigh, of Thames Valley Police, said: "Black demonstrated significant cruelty to his dog by punching it several times in the face, with no concern for its welfare."

The force said his two pet dogs were seized when he was arrested and had since been re-homed.

I get the impression that the CC cameras are ubiquitous in the UK? Surprising that people are dumb enough to get caught. If he's willing to do that in public, what's on his "Okay to do to a dog" list in private?

Hi David I don't know what its like in the states but we have cctv every were even facial recognition, my view is you have nothing to hide why worry, this is why the huddy and neck warmer became a fashion item you don't need to be dumb to get caught somewere during your daily business you will be on cctv

nothing to hide why worry
In an ideal world, I agree. However, I can hardly say I trust people in charge here not to abuse this technology. Plainly put, I don't trust our government. If it's not out of stupidity, then it's crooked dealings.
In any case, since it sounds like I'm a hater, I love my country and what my country stands for according to the Constitution.

I totally agree with all sentiment on how wrong this is, but am worried he would not get close to this if it was a person he hit.

Yeah I thought that. I'm no dog lover, in fact I really don't like them, and what he did was sooooo wrong. However, I think people do far worse to other humans and don't get sentences like that :?:

I agree with the hit another person bit, but we are a dog and cat loving nation, we have a border collie who has hip dysplaysia I was adviced to put her to sleep when she was 6 months old, she is 10 now and still going strong can still get up stairs and play ball in the yard she is limited and gets tired, but I trust her more than most humans she adores our 6 year old grand daughter, cruelty is dispicpable wether its an child a grown up dog cat or whatever

Stories like this make me feel sick.!!!

My cat actually saved my life about 2 yrs ago.I owe him everything.

At least this "creature" has got his just-deserts.I hope the dog has been re-homed.

Thanks for your suppport guys. Let me tell you a story.
When i fell down the stairs to my home and lay half crippled in the hallway my cat raised the alarm (by screaming and then bringing a friend to my aid). And then sticking like glue to me.

I am certain many members have also had similar.

TBH I never considered cats able to care

I think most animals have far more intelligence than most people give them credit for. Certainly more than most politicians.
Even budgies care - one of mine (sadly RIP some years ago) was one of the most emotionally aware and caring creatures I've ever come across. He was rescued, and had previously had a very bad life. He was quite old when he came to me, and was terrified of people. It took me several weeks to convince him that not all people are nasty, and not all hands are dangerous. Thereafter he became extremely tame and friendly and was clearly very intelligent, though small because of malnourishment in his previous life. Being able to give him a good final part of his life (not long, because of his age and history) is one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had.

We used to have a budgie years ago it was a right noisy thing, it was really tame and would spend most of the day out of its gage.

The one on the left doesn't look impressed with the attention it's getting. :laugh8:

You know Rodj I think you are right.

Scientists and myself are having to constantly revise our estimation of animal intelligence forever upwards.

My cat (a rescue cat) shocks me by how smart he his,And how he can "read" my feelings.

Its just one of the reasons animal abuse makes my blood boil.

They all seem to be noisy. My current two live in my study (two or more is always best; they are social flock birds and one alone is not natural). The cage door is closed only at night when they go to sleep, the rest of the time they come and go as they wish. Interestingly, one is very noisy in the morning, and the other is very noisy in the evening. They don't let me listen to Radio 4. They will tolerate Classic FM just about. Every few weeks I have a drive of about 7 hours in the car with them, to London, and back a few days later. I usually try to listen to GQT, but if it is on Radio 4 during the journey they drown it out. I have some decent rock, but that is totally out of the question as far as they are concerned. I have (only) one CD with (only) two tracks that they actually like, and shut up and listen to: Ennio Morricone's theme from "A Fistful of Dollars" - the part with the whistling in it. So, I always have to start the journey by playing that for them, then hope Classic FM is OK.
At night after they have gone to sleep I stay working in my study for a while - it's reassuring for them to hear that I'm still around, but after half an hour or so when they are trying to sleep if I make too much noise one of them complains and I have to shut up. I'm controlled; SWMBO is nothing compared to BWMBO.

I feel the same way JCR. Our penal code is inadequate. There should be severe punishment for any form of intentional animal abuse, and I see nothing wrong with the death penalty for cases of extreme cruelty.
