I'm going to do a couple of single tin kits, EDME Irish Stout and Coopers Bitter. I have stacks of brewing sugar and a Thomas Coopers tin (1.5kg) of dark malt extract (which can be used for the stout?), and another coopers tin of light malt extract (which could be used for the Bitter?). Both kits reccommend 1kg of Sugar with each, what qauntity of Sugar/Malt extract would be recommended? Also can this Malt extract be used?

Nigel hi...

As far as I know...1kg dry= 1.25kg liquid....(but someone may say not)

So if you replace the 1 kg of sugar with 1kg of dry malt/ 1.25 liquid...you'll get a more malty beer...
A lot of the guys on here would say... give it a go..it's all part of the fun of home brewing..and you learn as you go...let us know how it turns out :thumb:

I have found out that when using just Malt Extract instead of Sugar to expect a higher FG. Also the brew would require a longer conditioning period. I have chucked a full tin (1.5kg) of the light malt extract with the Coopers bitter tin into the FV. I will be sticking it into a budget barrel when done, where I will be forgetting about it for some time, I'll post results, some time in the future.
