making kit beer thicker / creamier

Hi everyone I’ve only ever brewed with kits and done a few in the past and I’m doing my first Coopers stout kit.

Its in the bucket fermenting as we speak and I’ve added some flavouring (chocolate + orange only a little though to see what its like)

I’d like the beer to be a bit thicker than normal and used, I think, 1kg of spray malt when mixing everything rather than the normal brewing sugar. What can I do to get this thicker creamy texture. I know I’m never going to match Guinness with a nitrogen pump but must be able to do something. Will adding gelatine do anything orit will that just sink and help clear the beer?

Any tips welcomed and happy drinking everyone.

ps I'd like to use the principal on pale ales too :hat:

I was going with an essence as chocolate doesnt like water too much and i thought cocoa wouldn't thoroughly dissolve.

Got bottles of essence from brew shop choc, orange, apricot about £1.50 each the apricot is for when I do the coopers light ale. I’ve added about a third of the bottles of choc and orange to the bucket just for something different I should have left it really and just added it to pint glass to see what the stout is like plain but I’m impatient and like the experimenting of it lol.
 
My friend added 2 tins of black treacle to his stout and it came out lovely, but he added his during the mixing not the fermenting so I'm not sure if it would work.
 
Using malt extract will give a better mouth feel and brewing short also helps. I normally brew 23L kits to 19L. this increase the mouth feel and flavour as well. The other possible option would be to do a partial mash with oats and pale malt. Would been to heat grains to 40C for 30 mins then up to 68C for an hour. remove and rinse grains then add to the kit. The oats would make the stout much creamer and possible be the closest to what you want but does require a bit more effort.

hey if it helps im up for spending an hour or so it doesnt seem that long winded. Do you know where i could find a step by step for that with amounts etc. I might leave this one as it is and the next one prepare to add the oats /malt etc
 
While I'm here rather than starting a new threas should i bother with adding some gelatine will it make any difference atall or am i trying to fix something that may not even be broken? does gelatine just sink? :?:
 
Gelitine won't add anything to mouth feel it will simply drop out taking with it any sediment. Useful for clearing but not essential.
 
which in a black stout is potentially making a problem for no gain

No it is fine to clear a stout as with any other beer its just sometimes a little patience and a cold concrete floor will do the job just as easily. :thumb:
