i was in the supermarket the other day getting sugar for a batch of wine. i saw low calorie cane sugar. would i ba able to use this with the same results as normal cane sugar? cheers
:drink:

No. These are usually a granulated form of aspartame or a mix of aspartame and sugar. The aspartame porton is non fermentable so you will end up with a very sweet low alcohol juice based drink.

In a dry wine, almost all of the calories are in the form of alcohol. You can start out with a little less sugar and end up with a less alcoholic wine but there are limits to this before you start to affect the taste to much.
If it's a sweeter style of wine that you are after, you can brew dry and then back sweeten using an artificial sweetener ("Splenda" is a brand but on this forum it's prety much synonymous with any granulated aspartame product) insted of fruit juice or suger.
Ultimatly though the only weight watching option short of abstinance is moderation.

I'm a firm believer that you do all things in moderation, especially moderation....
