Yeah, nothing quite like lounging on the big bank by the observatory, on a hot sunny day, swigging on bottles of [redacted] lager... lol Back then, summer started in April too! Insane.

London is the centre of the universe. I was born and raised there, definitely the best city I've been to for beer.

To me London as a beer city has its pros and cons. You can get Fullers beers on cask in lots of places which I generally think of as a good thing as I like their beers, and because of where the brewery is it should be fresh. The downside is I don't think cask beer is kept particularly well in lots of our pubs. Another pro is the sheer number of micro breweries so access to lots of craft beers, though this is hardly unique to London. Underlying everything as a major con to beer life (and regular life) in London of course is prices.

Jjsh if you visit again within a year you qualify for the "glutton for punishment" award which is presented by the prime minister.

How so? I've heard Southerners like it without a head, and that is just plain wrong on every level.

Definitely not heard this before!

London is an expensive city, but if you know where to go beers can be cheaper. Euston Tap is more gentle on the wallet, and some Wetherspoons here serve some amazing craft beer (I'm talking peanut butter milk stout level of craft) for pretty cheap.

True. My local spoons has ale on hand pull for about £2.30 a pint on mondays, and the hipster craft pubs around SE London sell the hand pull beer for about £3.60 a pint

Youngs bitter generally has very little head and might well shock some of those used to a whacking great foamy head. Otherwise that's about it !

I was more amused by the disgust on locals faces when I put gravy on my chips.... Sadly local chip shops didn't sell it, so had to buy gravy granules and make my own.

Last few times I was down there, the beer wasn't at all bad. Just strange how fizzy real ale is there. As to wanting a head, I've found just as many people in the Midlands complain about it as do down saath. I worked as a bar man in my youth, and a few times I pulled a perfect pint, only to get "I'm paying for a pint, not a glass of foam! Top it up please.", followed by me pointing out their pint came in a marked glass.... lol

MyQul £3.60 a pint is cheap compared to some of the "Real Ale" pubs around here believe it or not. Spoons it's usually about £1.85 a pint of micro brewery real ale regardless of day or time though. Problem is, often a beer that is delicious in a micro brewery owned pub is revolting when you try it from a spoons...

I lived in London for 3 years. It was all bed and work. I was glad to leave for a scruffy northern town. Life's a beech. Clever reference to our wooded environs, there. Not a misspelling. I enjoyed my last visit, though. Drank in an east end pub with hoards of West Ham fans singing outside before the match.

I did a few years in that there London in my youth and it never really clicked with me. Moved to a Midlands city and loved it. I'm back in my countryside roots now, but often work in Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool, etc etc, and like them all. I just don't like our capital city for some reason. Illogical, I know.

I did parts 1-3 of the Capital ring on my bike today. Its amazing how green London actually is. There were parts of it when I didnt feel like I was in London at all and was in the countryside. Such as when I pushing my bike through Oxleas woods, and cycling past fields with horses in at the back of Eltham palce. (I often get WFT looks when cycling along on my recumbent but this is the first time Ive got one off a horse :laugh8: ) . I even had a coffee in a little (severndroog) castle in the middle of a wood at the top of shooters hill
