Phil if the fridge is icing up in places and not cooling properly then there is an issue with the gas in the system and the compressor stays on longer to try and cool the fridge down and satisfy the internal stat. As it can’t cool the fridge properly due to lack of gas it causes “cold spots” and these freeze up. I used to see it a lot in air conditioning units as they work on the same principal where a lack of gas causes the unit to ice up.
These days it’s not really cost effective to get a fridge man out to regas the system and if it’s an older fridge running on r407c you won’t even get it anymore.
get a money box and start saving as the end is near. 😜
In fairness, it has behaved this way since I got it 3 or 4 years ago. Time to splurge.
 
Just updating this with regards to using the logic L198CFW20 as a keezer with the old style aeb kegs. It will fit 4 kegs but it is an extremely tight squeaky fit with the old style kegs. What I hadn't realised when measuring the freezer in store with cardboard cut outs is that the part of the black rubber base that touches the ground is narrower the top of the rubber base.

I will probably move to the narrow new style kegs at some point in the future as budget allows.

I have the following issues that I'm thinking through at the minute:
  • Secondary regulators may need to be moved to the outside of the collar to allow for getting kegs in and out without hitting them.
  • Tube heater will have to be replaced with a heat lamp bulb and probably situated on the compressor hump again to allow access to the kegs.
  • Circulation fan also moved to side with compressor hump.
  • Might need to get smaller shanks or pull them more to the outside of the collar and add a board to the outside of the collar.
Hope this helps for anyone considering this freezer.

There most certainly is. Missed ordering a few duotight parts to connect up the itap. My 3d printer has been running flat out printing clamps for itap, cable tidy clips, John guest clips, duotight mounts, grommets for collar and holders for inkbird!!

Are you fermenting in there too? I've never added a tube heater to my keezer as it holds it's temperature so well.
No I'm not fermenting in there. Just though that it would be too cold during the winter. I have been going out to my unheated garage and the kegs have been around 5-8°C which is too cold for me. I left the lid of the keezer open today and got the temperature up to 11°C which is the perfect temperature for me.
 
+1 for the fan to keep the air circulating: that will undoubtedly help reduce the chill-down time and make sure your thermocouple is reading correctly athumb..
I'm going to 3d print a hinged bracket so that it can be lifted up when a keg change is required.

I have the exact same freezer in black but I didn’t fit a collar. I just use small party taps on the kegs and I’ve rigged up a simple CO2 distribution.

For me, it comfortably holds 3 of my old style corny kegs, 2 mini kegs, my full size CO2 bottle and my yeast inventory.

It’s fantastic value and really compact.
 
Can anyone confirm the internal height dimension of the Hotpoint RLA34, I have 2 of the old style 19L AEBs and they are 56cm in height (Height – 56cm Width – 23cm) the picture posted appears to have a lot more head room than 2cm . . . .

With the tall kegs and a collar I can fit 3 kegs on the floor and one on the compressor hump. I can fit a 5th keg in there, but it only sits an inch on the compressor hump and the rest hangs over. Plus the tap shanks get in the way of it. I tend to only need a maximum of 4 kegs so it's not a problem, but when I do need that 5th tap running I found a 10 litre keg (like this Stainless Steel 10 Litre Keg) fits in the floor space.

Two suggestions:
1. I put secondaries outside of the keezer. If they were inside then I'd struggle to get anything in or out.
2. The recirculation fan is mounted on magnets so I can take it off/replace it instantly when I need access.

Yeah I had to move the secondaries outside the freezer a while back and it was impossible to get a keg out our put a new one in.

I also put the circulation fan on a removable bracket. It's still a squeaky tight fit but using a pulley system makes it a lot easier.
