Hello Guys,

I've seen a few references on the forum to 'Liquoring Back'.
From the context of the posts I guess it is a process that helps the brewer achieve the correct amount of wort at the correct OG ?? :wha:

I'd be grateful of a more expansive explanation.

It's simply using (boiled, cooled) water to dilute a wort of a stronger gravity than you wanted down to the gravity you do want.

But also you can add the water at any time either post boil or post fermentation. Personally I prefer post boil, as I think it tastes better. Several big commercial breweries do this to get a lot more beer out of the plant . . . Directors is liquored back to produce Best Bitter
