morning all no its early but like sum advice please. I followed a 1980s wine recipe on tues using ribena I followed the recipe to the letter and wen i used my hydrometer take sugar reading it went off the scale????? its kept room temp at the mo air locked and nothing happening??? is it a dead start??? :hmm:

I've never made a Ribena wine myself but they can be very slow starters as the yeasts do battle with the preservatives. This one is only 2 days old so it's still earlyish days. I'd say give it a few more days and see how it gets on.

Hey many thanx 4 that and will let u no wot happens? hav goodday :thumb:

Hi eaamaann, i have made loads of ribena wine, they are always slow starters and to be honest dont very often get much faster when the do start.

Did you boil the ribena first before using it to drive off some of the preservatives? This usually helps to get things going a bit quicker!

hi bandit yes did boil 4 ten mins smells gr8 hope it does go well manny thanx hav good day

Mine took about a week to get going, and best part of a month to get down to 1004.

Hope you weren't planning on drinking this too soon, but when it's ready it really is delicious! :D
