Anyone got any tips to remove labels? These buggers i got here are well and truely stuck on.

its the glue more than anything. not sure the water would soften that up?

well i got 72 of the buggers to do :(

At least it only needs to be done once.

Caustic soda solution. Guaranteed to remove labels, stubborn stains, dirt and all the human tissue from your hands

If its the solvent based glue I use sticky label remover. Its a spray that denatures the glue and it 'balls up' and comes off reasonably easy.

The other option is to buy beers that have labels that soak off easily in warm water

I find if I leave the bottle at the side of the sink by the time I get home from work the next day they've moved to the other side and are spotless. :D

Soak in soapy water, pan green pad scrubber, then a good rinse to get rid of all soap. :thumb:

just put some white spirit on a sponge and wiped a few bottles over. Worked a treat to be honest.

Bit worried about using it though. Have you guys ever tried it?

Yes, I have used white spirit if there's a bottle I particularly want to re-use and a glue residue has been left behind after the label has been removed. I have then thoroughly washed the outside of the bottle with liquid soap and rinsed it off. No problem at all. Just try not to get any white spirit inside the bottle.

I generally leave any newly acquired bottles outside in a bucket of water for a few days, by which time most of the labels will have floated off. Any which haven't usually go straight back in my recycling tub as I have plenty to choose from and simply can't be bothered if they don't want to cooperate.

cool thanks moley. I think i will do it this once, just to get a good collection of bottles. From there on in, i will be a bit more picky.

Obviously its nicer to have label free bottles, especially if they are to be passed around. But, if you can only get an abundance of the awkward label bottles and they are for your consumption only just leave them on - its only you thats its gonna bother :thumb:

Alternatively, entrust your beloved wife to help with a few then tell her that she is able to make a better job of getting off the glue residue than you, she will revell in the fact that she is better than you at something and relieve you of the job  ... as if!!
