Because the malt pipe isn’t designed to be a grain press it is safer to move it off the kettle when the drain rate slows down. Putting it on a bucket (the Woodford wherry kit bucket is a perfect fit) lets you keep it low to the ground.Hi, I just measured, the 30l line is 3x the height of the 10l line which doesn't include the 7l dead space in this unit. I'll have a look into some way of squeezing the grain, shouldn't be too hard. Any reason you do it over a bucket and not the unit?
I also have the inkbird thermometer for reading topple mash temp.
Cheers again![]()
Gotcha, thanksBecause the malt pipe isn’t designed to be a grain press it is safer to move it off the kettle when the drain rate slows down. Putting it on a bucket (the Woodford wherry kit bucket is a perfect fit) lets you keep it low to the ground.
Be careful squeezing the grain after sparging, I did it and the bottom plate fell out dumping all the grain into the wort. What I do now is put the grain basket over the fermentation bucket and leave it while the wort gets to the boil and then add the additional wort in.Hi, I just measured, the 30l line is 3x the height of the 10l line which doesn't include the 7l dead space in this unit. Thanks, I will definitely learn from your lessons there! I've already got a bucket the grain basket sits on perfectly so I'll use thatBe careful squeezing the grain after sparging, I did it and the bottom plate fell out dumping all the grain into the wort. Foxy says the same too. Thanks, I will definitely learn from your lessons there! I've already got a bucket the grain basket sits on perfectly so I'll use that![]()
The dead space is the space below the outlet which retains the wort without tipping (around the 4 litre mark). The liquor under the mash tun should be in your calculations for the water to grain ratio.Hi, I just measured, the 30l line is 3x the height of the 10l line which doesn't include the 7l dead space in this unit.
