Not a review. But is kit related. I like using kits. I gives me an abundance of cider in a short time but I have an issue. Sediment. In the instructions it says to ferment once in a bucket/barrel then siphon into bottles with half teaspoon of sugar then basically let it mature for a couple of weeks.
So basically I was thinking of trying a secondary fermentation til it settles and then bottling. Could I do this? Would it help? And when would I add the carbonisation sugar?
 
I may be missing something here but if the instructions tell you to make it in the first FV then bottle i dont see what you are gaining by racking to a second.
 
Does the kit have finings?

Are you waiting until it is clear before bottling?

Does your syphon tube have a sediment trap?
 
If you want less sediment then racking a few times will cut it down, side effect though is you will have less product. You can also rack to a secondary and then batch prime your cider prior to bottling rather than adding some sugar direct to each bottle.
 
Room temp Andy, batch priming is just syphoning into another FV and adding priming sugar then bottling.
A couple of things I find help cut down on sediment are fermenting right out, at least 3 weeks, crash cooling also helps. I have to say the ciders I have brewed had v little sediment in anyway. Which kits have you tried?

I've used a youngs apple cider and a wilkos own pear. I'm just found a wilkos strawberry and lime.

I've siphoned off into another bucket. So should I add the sugar now or wait until about to bottle?

Sorry btw. I'm a complete novice. But I'm determined to crack it.
 
We're all learning or we wouldn't be on here :thumb:
I would rack into secondary then mix sugar in and bottle straight away, if that's not convenient now, I'd set it down in the spot your going to bottle in cover it up until your ready. If it's going to be a few days before bottling you could put it somewhere cold to help clear and move to bottling point day before.
To prime I mix the sugar into cooled boiled water then mix into bottling FV without too much thrashing/aeration.
