i've just bought a king keg top tap barrel to get a brew ready for a friends wedding. it's been in the barrel for about 4 days and i've just noticed that it seems to be bubbling from around the seal where the tap joins the barrel. had a look on the site and this seems to be a common problem, but can't decide what would be a definitive course of action.
I opened the tap to check that there was pressure. there certainly was.will it settle down and pour better than the pebbledash splatter effect. can't really see that being too popular at a wedding.
so, any ideas on how to stop the small leak from the tap seal? one thing, the chap in the shop said not to vaseline the tap so this could be a cause?....

thanks for any advice

Give your right hand (or whichever) a right good sanitise, scrub and rinse, up past your wrist.
get your hand in and holding the plastic nut on the inside of the tap, tighten it up. You will find it easier to hold the nut and turn the tap, then allign with the tap pointing down. That will probably do the trick, failing that, you could get a new tap. purge the space above the brew with CO2 to disperse the air you just let in, easiest to do that by injecting gas with the lid on loosely, then tighten up.

If you pressurise at over 2psi you will get lots of froth an splatter.
Another trick is to put about 2" of clear 1/2" hose on the tap outlet, this helps quite a bit.
Use clear, because a bit of green garden hose doesn't look quite the thing!

I concur, I put a section of hose on the tap so when I pour a pint you put the hose into the bottom of the glass and fill from the bottom up. Much easier to pour a pint and you don't have have a pint of froth. Remember to keep the hose clean though.
